How much does it cost to charge a mobility scooter?
About 26p a run on a standard tariff, or around £41 a year at 3 times a week. Less at the right time on a time-of-use tariff.

A mobility scooter charger draws only a hundred watts or so, but a full charge takes most of a night. A unit of electricity, about the price of a cup of tea, is enough for a full charge, so it costs very little to run.
How we work it out
A typical mobility scooter uses about 1kWh for full overnight charge, taking around 8 hours. Electricity on a standard variable tariff costs about 26p a unit across Great Britain at the moment (it varies a little by region), so one run comes to about 26p. Your own model may use more or less: the energy label, or a plug-in energy monitor, will tell you.
If you're on a tariff where the price changes through the day, such as Agile Octopus, Economy 7 or an electric car tariff, the same run can cost much less at the right time. The Cheap Watts tool finds that time for you on your own tariff.
How to spend less
- Charge it after every day of use, even a short one; the batteries last longer that way.
- If you have a cheap overnight rate, a timer plug lets you charge in those hours only.
- Keep it charged over winter even when it's not in use, or the batteries can be ruined.
